Road Runner Premium Blend Ice Melt — a balanced blend of calcium chloride, magnesium chloride and sodium chloride that melts ice down to about –15 °F; good all-around choice for driveways, sidewalks and walkways.
Prestone Winter Heat Calcium Chloride Ice Melt — engineered for very cold weather (effective down to –25 °F), melts fast and remains active under frigid winter conditions.
Scotwood Industries Premium Ice Melt Blend — combines magnesium and calcium chloride for quick melting, suitable for residential sidewalks and steps; relatively gentle on vegetation compared to pure salts.
Ace Premium Ice Melter — popular standard blend, good for everyday winter use; often priced competitively and easy to apply.
Scotwood Industries Pet‑Friendly Ice Melt — designed to be safer for pets’ paws and nearby landscaping while still melting to around –15 °F — a good option if you want to minimize environmental or pet impact.
Calcium Chloride Pellets Ice Melt — a strong, low-temperature pellet that works in very cold weather (–25 °F range), good for stubborn ice on concrete or driveway surfaces.
Temperature range matters: If temperatures drop below ~15–20 °F, standard rock salt (sodium chloride) becomes ineffective; calcium chloride or mixed blends remain active at much lower temps. ebarnett.com+1
Concrete & surface safety: Some ice melts (especially chloride-heavy) can damage concrete surfaces over time or accelerate wear — so use properly (don’t over-apply), and rinse/slush clean when ice clears. Concrete Masonry Restoration+1
Pets & landscaping: Chloride-based melts can irritate pet paws or harm plants; pet-/environment-friendly blends with magnesium or acetate-based compounds reduce those risks — but usually at higher cost. Lowe's+1
