Sika Thoroseal Acryl 60 (1-Gallon) — what it is, what it does, where it’s best used, and application guidance. Good for store use (Riztech) or customer reference.
Thoroseal Acryl 60 is a water-based acrylic-polymer emulsion admixture / bonding-modifier for cement/mortar/plaster/concrete. Sika USA+1
It enhances adhesion, cohesion, tensile, compressive and flexural strength of cement-based mixes. Sika USA+1
It improves durability, chemical & UV resistance, freeze/thaw stability — making mortars more robust and long-lasting. Sika USA+1
Sika Acryl 60 can be used in a variety of repair, construction, and masonry tasks:
As an admixture in Portland-cement mortars — for patching, overlays, resurfacing. Stone Tooling+1
To improve adhesion and performance of plaster, stucco, concrete repair mixes, masonry repairs (interior or exterior). Sika USA+1
In horizontal, vertical, or overhead surfaces — works on floors, walls, ceilings, structural elements. Sika USA+1
As a gauging liquid (mix liquid) for other Sika waterproofing / repair products — e.g. in combination with coatings or repair mortars needing polymer-modified mixes. Sika USA+1
Good for cold-climate / freeze-thaw environments because it enhances freeze/thaw durability compared to plain water-mixed mortars. Sika USA+1
Because of these properties, Acryl 60 is widely used in concrete repair, patching, overlays, masonry restoration, stucco, structural concrete repairs, and anywhere enhanced mortar performance is needed.
Compared to standard water-mixed cement, adding Acryl 60 significantly improves:
Adhesion and bonding to existing concrete or masonry substrates. Sika USA+1
Compressive strength — e.g. traditional mortar’s ~3,800 psi becomes ~4,500 psi at 28 days. Sika USA
Tensile and flexural strength — better crack resistance and resilience under stress. Sika USA+1
Freeze/thaw durability — greatly increased cycles without failure compared to water-only mixes. Sika USA+1
Water/chemical resistance, UV resistance — better long-term durability outdoors or in harsh conditions. Sika USA+1
Available in 1-gallon bottles, 5-gallon pails, and larger drums. Sika USA+1
Store between 40 °F and 100 °F (4–38 °C), avoid freezing. Shelf life ~12 months when stored properly. Sika USA+1
Density: ~ 8.65 lbs/gal. Solid content by volume ~28%. Sika USA+1
When using Acryl 60:
Prepare your cement or mortar mix as usual (cement + sand or specified mix).
Mix the liquid component using a mixture of Acryl 60 + water instead of plain water. Typical mixing ratios:
Standard mortar / plaster / pointing → 1 part Acryl 60 to 3 parts water Sika USA+1
Higher-performance overlay / topping / heavy-duty mix → ratio can increase (e.g. more Acryl 60) depending on required strength. block-lite.com+1
Mix thoroughly at low speed to avoid air entrainment. Sika USA+1
Damp-prep substrate (saturated surface-dry / SSD) — surface must be clean, sound, free of debris, oil, grease, or loose material. block-lite.com+1
Apply as needed — repairs, overlays, patches, stucco, mortar repairs. Cure per instructions (typically 24 h before light use; longer for heavy traffic) block-lite.com+1
Acryl 60 is an admixture / modifier for cementitious mixes, not a standalone sealant or coating. It must be mixed into mortar/concrete, not just applied as a liquid “sealer.” Sika USA+1
Do not use it as a surface-applied bonding agent or primer on its own — its benefit is when incorporated into the mortar mix. Sika USA+1
For projects expecting constant immersion or contact with aggressive chemicals / soft water / heavy deicers: additional protective top-coats or sealers may be needed — as Sika datasheet notes. Sika USA+1
Recommend Sika Thoroseal Acryl 60 when customers are doing:
Concrete repairs, patching, overlays, or resurfacing (floors, slabs, patios, walkways)
Masonry repairs, stucco, plaster, or exterior wall patching
Projects needing enhanced freeze-thaw / water / chemical resistance (driveways, exterior slabs, cold-climate areas)
Improved bonding when applying new mortar/plaster over old concrete or masonry
Heavy-duty mortar jobs where added strength, durability, and cohesion is valuable
both Quikrete Concrete Acrylic Fortifier and Sika Thoroseal Acryl 60 are acrylic-polymer admixtures / modifiers for cement-based materials, but they have slightly different positioning, performance data, and recommended uses. Here’s a comparison to help you decide which to use or stock at Riztech.
An acrylic-resin admixture designed to be added to repair mortars, stucco, thin Portland-cement coatings, tile grouts, and thin-set mortars. QUIKRETE+2QUIKRETE+2
Intended primarily for thin repairs, overlays, masonry repairs, stucco work, and patching — to improve bond strength, reduce permeability, reduce shrinkage and cracking, and increase water and freeze-thaw resistance. QUIKRETE+2QUIKRETE+2
A water-based acrylic polymer emulsion used to modify Portland cement mortars, plasters, stucco, concrete mixes. Sika USA+1
It enhances adhesion, cohesion, tensile/compressive/flexural strengths, improves chemical & UV resistance, improves freeze-thaw durability, and increases long-term performance of repaired or new concrete/mortar/ stucco installations. Sika USA+2Sika USA+2
Can be used in a wide variety of applications — patching, overlays, floors, walls, overhead, exterior or interior, above or below grade. Sika USA+1
Both are acrylic-based admixtures that improve bonding, water resistance, and durability of cement-based mixes when added properly.
Both are used for repairs, overlays, stucco/masonry work, and concrete patching or resurfacing.
Both reduce shrinkage / cracking, improve adhesion to existing substrates, and improve longevity of mortar/concrete repairs compared to plain water-mixed cement.

For light masonry repairs, stucco patches, small concrete patches, tile grout/mortar upgrades, thin overlays, and standard residential repair work → Quikrete Concrete Acrylic Fortifier is a solid, cost-effective choice.
For heavy-duty concrete repair, structural overlays, floor resurfacing, exterior exposure, freeze-thaw environments, high durability needs, or professional contractor-grade work → Sika Thoroseal Acryl 60 is superior because of its strength, durability, and broad application range.
If you stock a hardware store (like Riztech), carry both — Quikrete for everyday/masonry/patch needs; Sika for heavy-duty, high-performance, or professional-grade jobs.
With Quikrete Fortifier: do not mix with polymer-modified mixes or air-entraining mortars; and avoid combining with their Concrete Bonding Adhesive — the datasheet warns against those combinations. QUIKRETE+1
With Sika Acryl 60: for best performance, substrate should be properly prepared (clean, saturated-surface-dry), mixing and curing per instructions; under harsh conditions, further protective topcoats or sealers may still be recommended.
